January 26th-27th – New Instructor Academy – Denver Area
NIA is required for all Apprentice/Trainee level instructors. Here you will learn about Hunter Education (HE) policies, HE Learning Standards, how to teach to a multigenerational class, what teaching formats help students retain information and practice teaching portions of a HE class. This is your first step in becoming a certified HE Instructor. Since this is a two-day class, all instructors qualify for Saturday night lodging.
February 23rd – Scouting/Orienteering/Tracking – Cheyenne Mountain State Park
Join us as we refresh those hunting skills that don’t include a gun. Hunter Outreach Coordinator Jason Duetsch will lead us through the scouting and orienteering portion of the training, focusing on map and compass, and GPS. We see hunters staying closer to developed areas as they begin hunting, so not to get lost. Help them learn the skills needed to venture farther safely.
March 9th – Bowhunter Education Academy – Buena Vista
This training will put instructors through the National Bowhunters Education Foundation training. This is a one-day training that will be held at the Chaffee County Range. Instructors who wish to be a Bowhunter Education Instructor must complete a Bowhunter Education Course prior to taking this training.
April 6th – Small Game – Ft. Collins
Join us for a new variation of a small game workshop. With CPW’s emphasis on encouraging new hunters to participate in a small game, we’re going to focus the day on some of the less-traditionally hunted species. Our goal is to convince hunters that squirrels and rabbits can be as fun as pheasant and grouse, and as tasty. We’re combining hunting techniques and strategies with how to prepare them, and will actually be doing some cooking in this class to show some preparation techniques. Hunter Education Instructor and Wildlife Management Institute Director of Special Programs will be leading us through this new exploration of small game.
April 13th – First Aid/CPR/AED Certification with Stop the Bleed Training – Denver Metro Area
Having First Aid/CPR training has never been a requirement for Hunter Education, but it's a great idea to have for all parts of life. A few instructors have expressed an interest in a course, so we have set up a course that has a special focus on making the information relatable to hunting. In addition to CPR/First Aid certification, our instructor will also take us through a Stop the Bleed training. Finally, we will discuss Search and Rescue situations and how to be most beneficial to the cause, regardless of your role in the incident. Certification is good for two years.
